Our Day

Learning and Interacting

9.00am - 'Time to Shine'

As they arrive, children go in small groups to brush their teeth. Each child has their own toothbrush. Fluoride toothpaste is provided.

9.30am - Small Group Activities

The older children take part in letters and sounds activities, including:

  • rhyming words

  • initial sounds

  • blending sounds

as well as 'days of the week', 'months of the year' and 'the weather'.

 

The younger children take part in activities which encourage the learning of peers names, finger ryhmes, listening and attention.

The main room is set up with an array of continuous provision including:

  • mark-making

  • role play

  • construction

  • book corner

as well as a focused activity based on children's next steps. Children are free to engage in the activities of their choice.

From 10.15am - Snack Time

A self-service snack table is made available where children choose a healthy snack with a drink of milk or water.

From 11:30am - Outdoor Play

Regardless of the weather, we encourage all children to have some time playing outside.

Lunch and Nap Time

12.00pm - Lunchtime

Children can bring their own lunchboxes or order a hot meal provided by our external caterers.

1.00pm - Nap Time, Continuous Provision and Focused Activity

Depending on children's engagement, our focused activity may stay the same as the morning, or change. 

Keeping it the same enables children to embed knowledge and further their understanding.

2.15pm - Snack Time

Snack table opens.

2.45pm - Story and Rhyme Time

This session is focused around a variety of group work. Amongst others, activities include:

  • circle games

  • parachute games

  • musical instruments

Outdoor Learning

We have continuous access to secure outdoor space where we encourage the children to consider their environmental impact.

  • cogs and wheels

  • 'tap a shape'

  • small world play

  • day trips

Forest School

Every week, Charlie Walker, from 'Woodland Friends', visits to take the children out to 'the woods'. They cook, make dens, play games, listen to stories, climb on the trees, sing songs and have fun.

This develops motor skills, encourages teamwork and builds their relationship with the environment.
